Creative Outlook
In a world where shame and compliance are often forefronted, creative expression becomes increasingly important. It offers a space for healing, reflection, and reclamation. Through art, I explore the complexities of identity, emotion, and experience. I spend time nourishing and understanding the multitudes within me, all in the hopes that I can learn to better honor the multitudes that exist beyond me.
My process is grounded in curiosity, flow, and play. Often times in the art world we talk about “capturing” and “documenting” moments. For me, creative expression is act of presence more than it is a process of creating clear and definitive end products. I seek to linger in nuance, staying open to the world around me and responding with care. It’s easy to zoom in on minute details and take ourselves too seriously. In doing so, we lose touch with the bigger picture and confuse the whispers of the echo chamber for reality. Experimenting with mediums outside of painting (printmaking, sculpture, fiber and textile arts, as well music production, DJing, and playing the guitar etc.) helps me exercise creative hygene, keeping me flexible and open-minded. Through my art I engage in exploration and play. I remind myself that learning, listening, and translating is often far more valuable than preaching, prescribing, and reproducing.
In this light, art becomes a way to process: to ask, listen, and imagine. By engaging deeply with this practice, I hope to move through the world with more intention and awareness, and to invite others to do the same.
